Assignment 2: STUDIO BASED PRODUCTION

In this assignment we were supposed to make three live TV programs in three sequent weeks. Everyone had an active role in each program.

The first programme we made as a group is a Film Review Show.

It is basically a review on the short film we made, The Glimpse. It has been shown in a film review TV channel and was presented by me as the interviewer of the show who is interviewing the director, producer and the actor of the short. I had a brief review on some other film as well, Baby Driver by Edgar Wright.

For other jobs need in the project, my other colleagues have Benn responsible as vision mixer, cameras, floor manager and sound mixer and video playback as well as setting the lights, decoration and mic. For the green screen background image we set a London Bridge image.

I wrote the script of the interview including the video clips were going to be shown in the program. I was the host of the program and for me it was a big responsibility as English is not my first language, however to carry out this I practiced a lot of time on the script and the dialogues as well. For preparing the questions I was supposed to ask the guests, I had some research on interview questions and asked our team member for translating them into more proper English.

After I did a brief review on the film Baby Driver, I started  the interview from David as the director, Volkan as the actor and Isaac as the producer of the short. For the purposes of the film review show and to answer the questions related to the film, we decided to claim and pretend that we had made some other projects and got inspired of them such as the films “THE BOURNE” series for Volkan which he himself prepared its trailer, ‘TOP BOY’ and ‘ATTACK THE BLOCK’ for Isaac who had done the same for putting together the trailers.

We decided to put some humour into the program as well. For this purpose we had decided to set the program in an Iranian TV channel whose founder is myself as a Persian speaker and have a mixture of Persian and English talking or even using subtitles, however finally we changed our mind and settled the program in a London based show.

1. Film Review TV

2. Film Review

The second program is a live film review on Ale’s short film which she presented accompanied with Muni. In this program I took responsibility for one f the cameras.

3. MUSIC HITS QUIZ SHOW

Finally the third program is a Quiz Show which the third group presented in a kind of music quiz show. In this program I took the responsibility of vision mixing.

Here you will see some pictures of the shooting days.

Evaluation

I was really happy for the role I had in the first program as I could carry it out in the best way I could at this time and I received very exciting feedback from my classmates and friends. For the second one as the camera, I found it a good experience to do the job alongside with the vision mixer’s order. I would like to say the best part I could manage to carry out was the role of being a vision mixer as I at first found it a definite change for me and even I was to give up the job just before the starting of the show, Matt gave me good advices to make it easier and pushed m e to make it though. I was obsessed with this great role of the TV studio production in a way I wished the program would continue for one hour.
