Task 4: Evaluation

My documentary has two parts; the first part is about Underground Music in Iran, and by Underground I mean the music which is performed and publicise in basements of buildings as they haven’t been permitted by the Government in Iran to be released. The second part is about Busking in London which I personally interviewed one of the Buskers based in London and recorded his performance on Portobello Road.

To make the first part, I was not able to travel to Iran to personally shoot the footage. I researched existing online videos and films made in Iran to find the relevant and focused films which are valid as well. I chose the ones I knew the directors or producers. Most of the videos I chose have already English translation, I added text to the parts without translation after the first feedback from my teacher Matt who criticised its failure to give enough information to the audience that leads them to understand the main concept of the idea. It has added quite more knowledge about the characters background in music, and what happened to them as a result of not being allowed to publicise their work.

I had edited the film in a way which would start with Busking in London before I received the very smart feedback from Matt, which encouraged me to transfer Underground Music to the first as it made it more powerful to apply the connotations of the fact which the film has made based on.

In terms of editing, I tried my best to make it as short as still including enough concept of the information behind the idea. As for sound, it was a good experience for me to work on sound getting a match with the footage. As usual, I enjoyed the editing process more than during the production, especially because I learned more than before about Final Cut Pro, not only in terms of editing options but also in terms of the requirements needed to know about the settings on the software itself, which I would like to appreciate Matt, Eric, and Andy who helped me in doing that.
