TASK 2: ACCURACY AND VALIDITY

Justifying the Accuracy and Validity of my Research

The majority of my research I believe is accurate and valid as it is either mostly primary research like interviews or photographs that I took, personal observations and assessment of the tattoo parlour, or secondary research based on accurate and valid figurative data presenting average costs for an ad to be released and the audience measurements provided by BARB, Thinkbox, UK TV Channels, and  British Library. The tattoo commercials I presented as examples of my secondary design research are ads for the Indian tattoo campaign of Stop Not Chips, and Tattoo Jam which is a World Record Breaking Annual Tattoo Convention held every year. These are good examples that are relevant and focused and valid.

The Research Methods and Techniques That I have Used

For my research, I have used a range of methods and techniques. For my primary research, I planned to have critical conversations with my teachers, talk to my team members about the process of making the advert, make direct observations of the tattoo parlor, photograph the tattoo parlor, interview the client and record videos of pitching the idea to the client. The majority of my research has been primary research which is based on facts that I can verify myself, and I think this is what makes primary research among the most reliable data.

For secondary research, I used a range of online research, websites such as BARB and THINKBOX that provide relevant, focused, accurate, and valid data on the behavior of the UK’s TV households and classifications for the TV audience. Also, I researched good examples of tattoo commercial videos on YouTube and Instagram and interviews with people scared of needles but still getting tattoos. Books such as ‘The TV Brand Builders’, ‘Audiences’, ‘The Advertising Concept Book’ and ‘Research Methods for Media and Communication’  are all good, well-researched and reliable examples for audience measurements and tips on making TV commercials.

Comparing the Results to a Range of Sources

I used a range of sources for my research. As for primary research, we had three clients as there were some changes to our production plan. We undertook interviews with two out of three clients with different work experience to present greater details of their occupation and their background in tattooing, different styles and methods they use and their future projections for their jobs. I used a good range of focused and relevant websites and books to justify the accuracy and validity of quantitive and qualitative data I gathered for the TV advert and audience measurements.
